How Spiritual Tongues Stopped A Plane Disaster

Years ago I was scheduled to go on a business trip.  Because of the distance, I had to take a plane.  It seemed like a normal day and a normal trip but little did I know there would be one act of obedience that would save my life.  After we boarded the plane and taxied onto the runway, the pilot came over the intercom and said that our flight was delayed.  At that moment I heard the spirit of God say,” begin to pray in tongues”.  I didn’t know why God had said it but I obeyed.  It had to have been at least an hour or an hour and a half that we sat on the plane, and the entire time God kept saying “keep praying”.  We waited so long that they even turned off the plane.  After the wait, our time to take off finally came.  God said to me “don’t stop!”  As I continued to pray, the pilot revved the engines up and the plane proceeded to accelerate down the runway.  Right at the point of take-off the pilot hit the brakes and drove off the runway.   At that moment the spirit of God said, “now you can stop praying”.    The pilot then came over the intercom and said that one of the engines had gone out and if we had tried to take off we would have crashed.

Over the years I have thought about this event many times.  God performed a miracle that day in my life and many others.  The most interesting thing is that he did it through the power of spiritual tongues.

When I used to go to church as a child,  people would be at church talking in this language that no one understood.  As a child, I looked at it as something people just did when they came to church and got excited about God.  Today, As a man of God, the Lord has shown me a deeper understanding of this spiritual tongue gift.

One of the main reasons I believe the gift of tongues has not been properly used to extent of its power is that it is a mysterious gift.  To use it fully you must be lead by the Holy Spirit and have faith in the work that is done through it.  Obedience to the leading and order of God is essential to be blessed by the full work of tongues.  I have compiled a few verses to begin to help you get a full understanding of the gift of spiritual tongues.

The gift of tongues according to the bible is broken into three main operations. These operations with the guidance of the Holy Spirit will transform your life and others.

1.Tongues in another person’s language

This gift manifested itself on the day of Pentecost….. Act 2:1  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 2:5  And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:6  Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

2. Tongues for private intercession and personal edification

Paul’s Instruction to church on tongues.……1Corinthians 14:2  For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1 Corinthians 14:4  He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself;

Romans 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

3.Tongues for the edification of the church

Paul’s Instruction to church on tongues and church edification

1 Corinthians 14:12  Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
1Co 14:13  Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
1Co 14:14  For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
1Co 14:15  What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
